Leading Voices

Leading Voices – European Days for Vocal and Choral Leaders is an event of the European Choral Association for professionals in the choral sector.

It aims to support choral conductors and vocal leaders, creators and composers to actively explore, experience, and discuss the expansion and future of choral music.

Leading Voices is a five-day event that presents a programme about all the skills a conductor or vocal leader needs today. The event is attractive for all generations and levels and surrounded by a dynamic marketplace for conductors, vocal leaders, choirs, managers, artistic leaders and composers all over Europe.

Leading Voices strives to inspire its participants to explore new ways to enrich and strengthen the possibilities of choral music and to make sure choral music stays relevant from both an artistic, social and gettable point of view. Labs, lectures, workshops and lessons, as well as live concerts with inspiring choirs from all over the world form the basis of the programme.

LEADING VOICES 2025 in TALLIN - 2nd edition

2025 Edition – Tallin, Estonia

From 6–10 July 2025, Tallinn hosted Leading Voices, an event of the European Choral Association organised in cooperation with the Estonian Choral Association and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Leading Voices was a kind of symposium which, over five days, inspired and trained choral conductors/vocal leaders, composers/arrangers, vocal coaches, music educators/teachers, professional ensemble singers, and managers of all levels and generations.

It offered participants the possibility to actively explore, experience, and discuss the future of choral music through labs, lectures, workshops, lessons, and live concerts with inspiring choirs from around the world. The event opened with the Estonian Song Celebration, featuring more than 20,000 people singing together on the traditional shell stage

The main venue of the event was the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn. The city, known for its vibrant musical and choral life, previously hosted the Europa Cantat festival in 2018 and is famous for its song celebrations held every five years.

LEADING VOICES 2022 in UTRECHT - 1st edition

2022 Edition – Utrecht, Netherlands

Leading Voices held its first edition from 27–31 July 2022 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and offered a European platform to meet peers, learn from colleagues, and be inspired by artistic concepts and choirs. It served as a space for co-creation, exchange of ideas, and networking, where participants had the opportunity to explore repertoire, conducting techniques, educational methods, choral management, and much more.

The event featured over 70 sessions designed to explore collective singing from both social and artistic perspectives. The event covered all genres and skill levels, offering a dynamic platform for conductors, vocal leaders, music teachers, managers, artistic leaders, composers, and anyone interested in these professions from across Europe and beyond.

Leading Voices inspired participants to actively explore, experience, and discuss the evolution and future of choral music, aiming to help them become the leading voices of tomorrow. The programme was structured around five themes and divided into a variety of formats and subformats, allowing attendees to easily select sessions that matched their interests and ambitions.
