1st International Choral Composition Competition of Preveza 2022 (ICCP 2022)

The International Choral Festival of Preveza announces the International Choral Composition Competition of Preveza 2022 (ICCP 2022), the aim of which is to promote choral music through the creation of new and innovative choral repertoire for good level amateur Choirs. Participation is open to composers of any nationality and any age, whether professional or amateur.

CATEGORIES

A- Mixed Choirs

SATB or SMsATB a cappella, different body percussion can be used also.

B- Children’s Choirs

SA or SMsA with or without accompaniment (piano), different body percussion can be used also.

JURY

The jury will be consisted by the international recognized and established composers:

President of the Jury:

Vytautas Miškinis(Lithuania)

Javier Busto (Spain)

Ko Matsushita (Japan)

The judgement process is based on the criteria:

– Voice guidance, harmonic structure.

– Relevance to the content of the text.

– Innovation and artistic value.

– Considering the difficulty level for good amateur choirs.

AWARDS

CATEGORY A – Mixed Choirs

1st Place

The composer of the winning work will receive a prize of 700 EUR and a diploma.

Organizer will provide also two days accommodation and food to participant for joining the live premiere at International Choir Festival of Preveza.

2nd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 550 EUR and a diploma.

3rd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 400 EUR and a diploma

The Jury can mention and suggest also other compositions for performance.

CATEGORY B – Children’s Choirs

1st Place

The composer of the winning work will receive a prize of 500 EUR and a diploma.

Organizer will provide also two days accommodation and food to participant for joining the live premiere at International Choir Festival of Preveza.

2nd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 400 EUR and a diploma.

3rd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 300 EUR and a diploma

The Jury can mention and suggest also other compositions for performance.

 

SPECIAL AWARDS

Jury can award also:

– For the best composition written by participant born after January 14th, 1997

– For the best composition written by Greek composer

– For the best Orthodox composition

PUBLISHING THE WINNING COMPOSITION

In addition, the 1st prize winner’s score (in all categories) will be published and distributed by ASTRUM Music Publications (http://www.astrum.si) in accordance with its generally applicable rules.
The score(s) will be published in its Choral Series: “COMMISSIONED & AWARDED COMPOSITIONS” whose aim is to support the activities of advanced choirs.

Thus, by entering the contest, entrants agree to sign over publishing rights to the ASTRUM Music Publications for the awarded and by-the-jury selected compositions.

The ASTRUM Music Publications will include the winning & selected composition(s) in its own catalogue and will undertake the drafting of the contract and the promotion of the work, the material for which must be delivered strictly in digital format and realized using the Sibelius or Finale or Dorico software programs.

Award winning works will be performed as obligatory compositions for the International Choral Conductors Competition Preveza 2022.

 

APPLICATIONS 

The compositions for ICCP 2022 must be written and stated as below:

CATEGORY A – Mixed Choirs: SATB a cappella

Basically each voice must not be divided, with exception in female choir where choir can be divided in three parts (SMsATB). No accompaniment allowed, including body percussion elements is allowed.

Duration: 2 to 4 minutes.

Text: Latin, English and Russian (Orthodox music) only, contents may be either sacred or profane. If the text is not in public domain, a written statement by the author or copyright holder for the use of the text must be attached to the entry e-mail.

CATEGORY B – Children’s Choirs

Choir can be divided in two or three parts (SA or SMsA).

Composition can be written a cappella or with piano accompaniment. Including body percussion elements is allowed.

Duration: 2 to 3 minutes.

Text: Latin, English and Russian (Orthodox music) only, contents may be either sacred or profane. If the text is not in public domain, a written statement by the author or copyright holder for the use of the text must be attached to the entry e-mail.

HOW TO SUBMIT THE COMPOSITION

– State the performance duration on the top of the 1st page of the score.

– Format: PDF, made from Finale, Sibelius, or a similar score writing program. If

possible, attach the MP3 audio file when submitting the work.

– Do not state the composer’s name anywhere on the score! If there is an author of the

text, the name of the author shall be clearly stated.

– The original text and its English translation should be attached to the score.

Entry fee is 50 EUR per composition.

 ANOUNCEMENT OF AWARD WINNERS 

The results will be announced on February 18th, 2022 on the International Choral Festival of Preveza website and Facebook page. The award winners will be individually notified also via e-mail.

PREMIERE PERFORMANCE 

The premiere performance of the awarded works will be made at the 1st International Choral Conductors Competition of Preveza 4.-5. July 2022. The performance will be streamed and published on YouTube channel of the festival.

REGULATIONS

– The composition must not be performed, awarded nor published before. A declaration

that the work fulfills this condition (any format is allowed) must be submitted.

– A participant can apply as many works as wanted. One entry form for each work must

be filled.

– Upon the awarded works that will be published, the publishing right will belong to

Astrum Music Publisher.

– Participation in the competition implies full knowledge and acceptance of these

regulations.

– The jury’s decision is final.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION: 

 

– Composed work (which clearly state the performance time and does not state the

name of the composer, in PDF format).

– Original text and the English translation of the text.

– Declaration:“I declare that this composition submitted to the ICCP 2022 competition

  has hitherto: neither been published or destined to be published (e.g. with exclusive

  publisher’s agreements), nor written as composition based on any other protected

  composition, nor performed before a public audience, nor awarded a prize in any other

  competition.”

– Permission from the text author if the text is not in public domain (no format

restrictions).

– Short CV (Biography) in English and a photo in good resolution,

– Proof of payment of participation fee
