Choral Camp Choral Ethno Crossroads
17 Jul 2019 – 22 Jul 2019, Limassol
OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
SUMMER YOUTH CHORAL CAMP “CHORAL ETHNO CROSSROADS”
17-22 JULY 2019
LIMASSOL – CYPRUS
EPILOGI Cultural Movement of Limassol is happy to announce the call for participants for our first summer camp “CHORAL ETHNO CROSSROADS”, taking place in Limassol, Cyprus, between 17th and 22nd July, 2019.
The choral camp aims at offering young choral singers the opportunity to get acquainted with the choral music of each country represented in the international Ethno choir, and discover the similarities and the diversities of each other’s traditions and cultural heritage. They will have the chance to sing and interact in various languages with other young people coming from different cultural and musical backgrounds and to learn how to use these diversities to create a homogenous final product.
The camp will include daily sessions of rehearsals of the repertoire previously selected by the Artistic Committee. The camp will also offer a workshop during which the participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with the Argentinian choral composer Santiago Veros, and discover new rhythms and melodies.
We are looking for co-operation with mixed youth choirs from Europe and the Middle East. Each cooperating choir (“partner choir”) should delegate up to 7 singers, members of their choirs, of different voices, so that the balance of the choir be ensured.
The singers must be between 18 and 30 years of age, and must feel comfortable at sight reading.
The singers delegated by the partner choirs will form an international ad hoc choir of approximately 50 members, which will rehearse for 4 days the repertoire suggested by the partner choirs, culminating in a final concert at the end of the camp, on 21st July in Limassol.
The repertoire to be rehearsed during the Camp will be chosen by the artistic committee delegated by the organizers, based on the pieces recommended by the partner choirs. We expect each choir to propose three choral pieces, of which at least one shall be included in the camp’s repertoire.
The recommended pieces should be choral arrangements of traditional songs of the partner choir’s country, preferably one of the three to be contemporary, featuring traditional motifs of the respective country (e.g. contemporary arrangements of traditional songs) for S.A.T.B. choirs.
The scores of the proposed pieces should be sent via e-mail to the artistic committee before 31st May 2019.
The selected pieces must be royalty free or have the permission of the copyright owner.
